Anicée Van Engeland

progphoto_eups_van_engelandAnicée Van Engeland holds a Ph.D. from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques and a Master in international relations from Université Paris II Assas. She is also a jurist and holds a Master in Laws from Harvard Law School. Eventually she has a Master in Iranian Studies from Paris III Sorbonne.

Her fields of expertise in political sciences are the relationships between the European Union and the United States, immigration and migration towards the EU and within  the EU, human trafficking and criminal justice in the EU (mainly terrorism and counter-terrorism measures).

As a lawyer, she specialized in international human rights, human rights in Iran, international humanitarian law, Islamic humanitarian law, refugees’ issues, terrorism and torture.

She has published articles in all these fields; she is also a consultant for several universities, research centers and think tanks worldwide. Anicée recently finished a project with the ICRC in Geneva, then with the UNHCR in Iran. She is currently working on two other projects: one involves the rule of law in Afghanistan and is under the auspices of the French Minister of Foreign Affaires.  The second consultancy is a project with the International Labor Organization regarding migrations of Afghan workers. From September 2007 until August 2009, she was a Max Weber fellow at the European University Institute. While in the United States, Anicée had the chance to collaborate with the Harvard Research Group on Terrorism.
