Program Location

chinacountrysideAs the capital of Sichuan Province, Chengdu has the Tibetan Plateau in the west and the Three Gorges and the Yangtze River in the east.  It has been the cultural and economic center in China’s southwestern region for several thousand years.  It is famous for its spicy food and laid back lifestyle.  It is the home for giant pandas.

Beijing has been China’s political, cultural and economic heart for several hundred years.  Many places of historic and cultural interests are in the city or within its vicinity, such as, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Great Wall, and so on.

During this program, students will have opportunities to travel to Tiananmen Square, Juzhaiguo, Panda Base, Giant Buddha, Forbidden City, Great Wall, among other landmarks, in addition to tours of factories and interactions with local Chinese people. Instructional methods include lectures, guided tours, field work, journal assignments and/or papers and tests/exams. Students will choose 3 courses, enrolling in 9 or 10 credit hours (CHIN 101 and 102 are 4 credit hours).

Accommodations

Students will reside in hotels and residence halls/dormitories in Chengdu City and Beijing, China. Group meals will be provided.
