James Madison Innovations, Inc.

JMU Technology Innovation is eager to work with faculty, staff, and student inventors to help them understand our process of university technology transfer, from preparing for an eventual invention discovery through the commercialization process.  James Madison Innovations, Inc. (JMI), founded in 2008 by Mary Lou Bourne, Director of Technology Transfer, is the non-profit corporation affiliated with JMU to manage intellectual property on behalf of the university.

As an inventor you may have many questions about the licensing of your invention, JMI is here to help you with the process. JMI can help you answer the following questions:

  • How do I get started?
  • How is the ownership of my invention determined?
  • How do I patent my invention?
  • How does the licensing of intellectual property occur?
