BEST PRACTICES PAPER

AHRD 670

FALL SEMESTER, 1999

Desired Learning Outcome - Students will be able to select, investigate and ultimately describe a program in American Higher Education that they believe is exemplary. Students will be able to summarize the desired outcomes of the program, how those outcomes are effectively pursued, the specific reasons why they believe the program is outstanding, what assessment/evaluation efforts are in place, what the results indicate, and how the results are utilized to improve the program.

Required Student Activity

Students will select a topic from an area that was not selected by that student for his/her major presentation. Within the area selected, the student should identify a specific administrative structure, course, program or service in higher education that s/he believes is outstanding. Students may not use examples with which they have been affiliated either directly by personal participation or indirectly, as a student at that institution. After gathering appropriate materials and conducting necessary interviews, the student will write a paper that meets the learning outcome. The paper should be submitted to the professor no later than Monday, November 29,1999. Students should meet with the instructor very early in the process to discuss the subject of the paper and how it will be researched.
