Duke Dog logo standards

The Duke Dog logo must be displayed according to these standards.

  • The Duke Dog logo shall be legible.
  • The Duke Dog logo is federally registered and must be displayed with the standard registration mark "®."
  • The Duke Dog logoshall be used only for athletics- or alumni-related communications.
  • The Duke Dog logo is surrounded by a "clear area." No type or graphic elements shall overprint, touch or appear behind it.
  • The Duke Dog logo shall be used in its entirety. No part of the logo, such as the dog illustration, shall be used separately.
  • Duke Dog logo letters, proportions and placement of elements shall not be altered.
  • The Duke Dog logo shall not be used as a background image so that type or graphic elements overprint it.
  • The Duke Dog logo shall not be reversed.
  • The Duke Dog logo shall not be used in proximity to the James Madison logo, the Duke Dog secondary mark, the Duke Dog mascot mark or the JMU letter mark. Another logo or mark shall not be closer than the total length from left to right of the Duke Dog logo.

Duke Dog logo color usage standards

  • Pantone Matching System 2685 Purple and 1245 Gold or 871 Metallic Gold or their corresponding four-color process builds shall be used to produce official JMU purple and gold in printed athletics communications.
  • A one-color Duke Dog logo or other athletics mark shall be displayed in purple, gold or black.
  • Official JMU purple and gold shall be used to produce a two-color Duke Dog logo or other athletics mark in printed communications.
  • The following Pantone Matching System ink colors shall be used to create the Duke Dog logo with spot color: 2685 Purple (cape, crown cap and control shape); 1245 Gold or 871 Metallic Gold (crown, collar and letters); Cool Gray 5 or black screened to 34 percent (body); solid black (all outlines) and 485 Red (tongue).
  • The following percentages shall be used to create the Duke Dog logo with four-color process builds (CMYK): 80 Cyan and 80 Magenta for purple; 28 Magenta, 100 Yellow and 19 Black for gold; 34 Black for gray; and 100 Magenta and 91 Yellow for red.
