ICAD is an umbrella entity within JMU's School of Communication Studies that houses the Center for Conflict Analysis and Intervention, the Center for Health and Environmental Communication, and the Campus Community Civic Collaborative (4C). Our goal is to bridge the gap between the unversity community and the world outside the university through outreach, community service, research, and scholarship centered on productive communication processes and efforts.

Our Mission

The mission of ICAD is to promote public participation and engagement around potentially divisive issues using dialogue and advocacy processes, promote the practice of constructive advocacy and dialogue, and disseminate resources about constructive advocacy and dialogue.

History of ICAD

As an institute we strive to serve as a resource to local communities, civic groups, and organizations to foster a commitment to processes that engage citizens in public life and enable thoughtful, informed actions to improve the public sphere.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
