ICAD is an umbrella entity within JMU's School of Communication Studies that houses the Center for Conflict Analysis and Intervention as well as the Center for Health and Environmental Communication. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the unversity community and the world outside the university through outreach, community service, research, and scholarship.
The mission of ICAD is to promote public participation and engagement around potentially divisive issues using dialogue and advocacy processes, promote the practice of constructive advocacy and dialogue, and disseminate resources about constructive advocacy and dialogue.
History of ICAD:
As an institution we have provided community service, served as a resource to local community civic groups, and have helped foster a community commitment to civic and candidate debates and consulted on candidate forums for serveral city council events. We have also held "Town Hall' meetings pertaining to the annual Madison Cup Debate that is held every spring on our campus.
"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
