Defining Diversity
Sponsored by the International Beliefs and Values Institute in collaboration with the Office of International Programs, the Orientation Office, the Madison Art Collection, and the Office of the Special Assistant for Diversity
ESSAYS:
Essays may not exceed 1,000 words. They should be composed in MS Word. Please include a cover sheet that contains your full name, address, phone number, and email address. Do not include your name or any other identifying information on the actual essay. Please email submissions to Dr. Jennifer Coffman at coffmaje@jmu.edu and copy the email to ibavi@jmu.edu.
Entries will be judged and scored by a panel; entries will be numbered and authors unknown to judges. Submissions will be judged in the following areas:
- How well does the essay demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for diversity?
- How well does the essay engage and affect the reader?
- Does the essay inspire and/or motivate the reader to action?
- Is the essay well-written, well-composed and relatively free of errors?
