Damian White, Ph.D.
Damian White, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at James Madison University. He has research interests in the areas of environmental sociology, urban studies and social and political theory. Prior to coming to James Madison University, he was a post-doctoral research at the University of East London working on the European Union project 'Optimising the Public Understanding of Science' (2001-2002) and a lecturer in Sociology at Goldsmiths College, University of London (2002-2003). He has published articles on the historical relations between human societies and nature, the green industrial revolution, the 'production of nature' debate, the libertarian traditions of the political left and on the public understanding of science. He is presently completing a book on the social and ecological philosopher Murray Bookchin to be published by Pluto Press in 2007 and editing a collection of essays on the theme of 'Technonatures'. He is the co-convener of 'Technonatures', a series of symposia that reflections on the future of environmentalism in 'technological times'. His future research will focus on the area of sustainable cities.
