New 'Expanded' PositionLink Website
We have expanded the PositionLink web site to assist those who manage EWPs in their area. PositionLink is the new position description tool for managing Sections I and II of the Employee Work Profile. The new web site is designed to address the most common actions and questions regarding the PositionLink system and includes links for: Getting Started, PositionLink News, Tips and Reminders, Career Group Descriptions, Salary Administration Plan, The Supervisors Handbook, PositionLink Training, and Current Classified Paybands. The 35th annual Employee Service Awards Banquet was held March 28. 173 employees were honored for years of service ranging from 5 years to 40 years with a combined knowledge base of over 2,000 years!

New Recruiting Efforts
Human Resources has purchased an unlimited posting subscription to InsideHigherEd.com. All Instructional Faculty and AP Faculty postings will be listed on this website. PeopleAdmin, the company that administers the JobLink system, is currently in the process of developing a link between the two systems that will allow Inside Higher Ed to automatically update their postings every night.
Human Resources has also purchased 12 postings from Women in Higher Education, www.wihe.com. Every month we will post a combined ad of all the Instructional and AP Faculty positions that have opened during the past month.
Currently all Classified and Wage positions are being posted on the TV3 Job Board at www.whsv.com. This is a great local job site that will increase the exposure of JMU positions throughout the local community.
Jorge Matallana represented JMU in the Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Job Fair on Thursday March 8th. It was held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg and was attended by over 400 participants.
The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network VALHEN is now available for individuals to register. This web site will allow anyone who has a relationship with the Hispanic community to network and gain/share information about events and other issues related to the Hispanic community. VALHEN can be found at www.vlab.virginia.gov.
April Question of the Month
Amy is a wage employee in your office and she is an outstanding employee! You just found out that you are receiving a new classified position and, as a result, will lose your wage budget. Amy would be perfect for the full-time position. What do you do?
A. Offer the position to Amy, she has proven to be a great employee. Since she will technically be losing her job, there is no requirement to recruit for the full-time position.
B. Recruit on the position since the state requires a competitive process for all full-time positions. However, let Amy know the recruitment is just a technicality and the job is hers.
C. Talk to Amy about the new information, including the fact that her wage position will be ending. Explain to her that she must go through a competitive process and although you hope she will apply, there is no guarantee that she will be the best fit for the position.
