CommonHealth

CommonHealth is the employee wellness program for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Programs cover a variety of health and wellness subjects and are presented in a variety of formats - including onsite programs and video presentations - that make it easy to participate. Lactaction Rooms on Campus

Rooms on campus which may be scheduled for lactation purposes:

  • Health and Behavioral Studies Building, room 4081 (call Hope Thompson, 540/568-2760).
  • Ice House (call John Skelly, 540/568-4696, skellyjm@jmu.edu)
  • Madison Hall (call Paul Campbell, 540/568-5681, campb1pr@jmu.edu)
  • University Health Center (call 540/568-6178, press option 2).
  • Other buildings on campus utilize private offices or conference rooms upon need/request.

Weight Watchers

The Commonwealth of Virginia offers Weight Watchers at special pricing to state employees, spouses and adult dependents.  Employees eligible for the health benefits program may also be reimbursed for half the cost of services, once they have completed program requirements.

University Recreation (UREC)

The university has excellent recreational facilities that are available for use by university employees and family members. University Recreation (UREC) aims to promote and advance healthy lifestyles through educational programs, participation opportunities and support services. UREC offers a wide variety of wellness and fitness opportunities including wall climbing, racquetball, basketball/ volleyball, indoor track, cardio theatre, indoor pool/sauna/spa area and group fitness/multipurpose. The University Recreation Center offers FAST Fitness, group fitness sessions, offered to faculty and staff giving employees an opportunity to work out with their colleagues.

UREC also houses an equipment center where sports and camping/outdoor equipment can be checked out or rented. Personal training, fitness/nutrition analysis and massage services are also available for a fee.

Discounted Identity Theft Protection

Through LegalShield, you will have the ability to purchase high quality identity theft protection designed to protect you and your family at a discounted price and with no enrollment fee. You can expect to see more information about this optional pay-as-you go benefit in the coming weeks.

Abenity - New Employee Perks Program

Human Resources is pleased to introduce a new offering, Abenity, to our employee-rich benefits.  Abenity is a perks program which provides over 200,000 local and national discounts to program members, amounting to well over $4,500 in personal consumer savings.  By offering these discounts, the university continues to strive to promote an enriched work-life balance. We hope you will find many uses for these discounts. Simply log onto the Abenity website and register by using your JMU email.  Once you are registered, you will be eligible to receive the discounts either through your mobile phone or by downloading the discount.
