JMU's Human Resources department invests a significant amount of time and effort to serve as advocates for our employees at the state level. Steve Hedrick, State Policy Committee
As a representative of JMU, providing assistance to the Department of Human Resource Management with the revision of the Standards of Conduct Policy # 1.60. This is the first of many HR- related state policies that will undergo revision.

Serves as State Chapter Chair for the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources
Diane Yerian, DHRM Statewide Management Curriculum Development Team
Formed to address the aging state workforce concerns. State agencies meet to share information and determine curriculum for learning topics. The goal is to have a Statewide Management Curriculum that will provide consistency in management training throughout the state at no cost with modules available on-line and open enrollment. Train the trainers will also be a component of the plan to assist agencies with on site classroom training.
Jennifer Testa, Recruitment and Retention Advisory Committee
Formed to discuss recruitment strategies and resources in the Commonwealth. Topics of discussion include advertising rates, web resources, screening tools, etc.
Wanda Layman, Optional Retirement Program for Higher Education Focus Group
Established by the Virginia Retirement System to review policies and procedures for the ORP program established by the ORP Advisory Committee. Focus group participants could provide input regarding the Optional Retirement Progam for the ORP Advisory Committe to take under consideration when making necessary revisions to the ORP policies and procedures.
Krystal Smith and Julie Byers, VSDP Focus Group
Formed to give agencies the oppportunity to give feedback on issues and concerns related to the VSDP program. Feedback provided would be used to make necessary changes in policy for the program.
