1. What are the criteria for admittance into Track II of the Honors Program?
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be a current or transfer student.
2. What are the benefits of participating in the JMU Honors Program?
3. Are honors classes harder than other university classes?
Honors classes are not harder, nor do they receive any greater GPA weighting than other courses. They do offer greater opportunity for discussion and debate, work with primary materials, research and writing, and the development of critical thinking.
4. What are the requirements to stay in the Honors Program?
Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA to be accepted into the program. To remain in good standing, students must maintain at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Students must also complete at least one honors course or Honors Option each semester until all honors requirements are met. Students are encouraged to attend group advising sessions, as offered, in order to remain current with program requirements and to progress through them in a timely fashion.
