Annual Conference
Charlotte Center City Hilton Hotel, Charlotte, NC
March 29 31, 2007
"Curiosity: The Spirit of Honors Inquiry"
Call forProposals
Postmark Deadline: January 31, 2007
Dear SRHC Member:
As we celebrate our 35th year as the Southern Regional Honors Council, it is fitting that we address the energy that drives what we do, curiosity. As Foucault (1980) suggests . . . "it (curiosity) evokes 'concern' it evokes the care one takes for what exists and could exist; a readiness to find strange and singular what surrounds us; a certain relentlessness to break up our familiarities and to regard otherwise the same things; a fervor to grasp what is happening and what passes . . ." Without curiosity there would be none of the many attributes we consider honors ---- innovation, discovery, exploration, inspiration or risk. As we meet in a city whose founders were driven by curiosity to create an environment that has quickly become one of the Carolinas largest metropolitan areas and centers for advancement, please consider submitting proposals for presentation and poster sessions on those topics of inquiry which have been inspired by your curiosity. We welcome proposals for academic, creative, scholarly or practical sessions on all themes related to honors.
The conference will begin on Thursday, March 29, 2007with the first session beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by the President's Reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres and Student Caucus. Beginning at 8:30 p.m. rotating shuttle buses departing the front entrance of the hotel will take you to the Gala at Discovery Place with dessert followed by a showing of the current Imax film. We will continue with a full day of sessions and programming on Friday with a luncheon and keynote address by Dr. Thomas F. Moore, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Winthrop University, our host institution. On Saturday morning, sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude with the beginning of the business meeting scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Audiovisual equipment will be limited strictly to presentations that absolutely must have such support. Please consider that if your presentation depends upon technical assistance, you may be required to supply your own equipment or alter your presentation plans to be included in the program. Be sure to check the appropriate information in the Equipment Request portion of your proposal form.
