Sign-up sheets for the Honors Program night out at the Blackfriars Playhouse (The Brats of Clarence), February 22, are posted on the bulletin board inside the basement backdoor of Hillcrest. Don't miss out on this opportunity for a fun, free evening (with food!!) with other honors students. The play is very funny. (See last week's Update for details.)

The Honors Program is looking for Honors student photos to add to its website. Please feel free to submit any of your fun JMU pictures, including outdoorsy/sports activities, hanging out with friends, exciting trips over the breaks, even simply funny photos of friends, and so on. Submit photos electronically or direct your questions to Alex Byland or Elissa Winarski at HonorsStudentAdvisoryCouncil@yahoo.com Submission of photos gives the Honors Program the right to use those photos on their website. If you wish to include any information (i.e. names, what activity is represented in the photo, etc.) that could be used for a caption, please do so.

The College Leaders Program gives students who are interested in public policy and politics in-depth classroom instruction and hands-on training in state and local government in Virginia. Meet with key players, elected officials, journalists, lobbyists, campaign strategists, and distinguished business and non-profit leaders. Students can earn six credits from UVA. The Southern Education Foundation, www.southerneducation.org, application deadline is March 15, 2007,seeks highly motivated and talented students to participate in a unique leadership development opportunity intended to improve education for all, especially low-income families who need the most help. This project commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs Board of Education decision. A generous stipend of $3,000 for undergraduate students and $3,500 for graduate students is provided.

Freshman Honors Scholars have until the end of the semester to complete 50 HOP points, which means that you should have attended 10 HOP events since the beginning of the fall semester. Numerous events are already posted; you should have no trouble finding 10 events to fulfill this requirement so that you can maintain your honors scholar status next year. Please send event responses to Daniel at mcdowdc@jmu.edu for all events that are not Brown Bags or Symposiums. Continue to check the spring opportunities program option on Blackboard for all upcoming HOP events.
