Tammy Steele is the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the JMU Honors College. Tammy graduated from Bridgewater College with a Business Degree in May 1999. Tammy works closely with Dean Newcomer and the Honors College faculty, staff and students to ensure the College is run smoothly and efficiently in all aspects of administrative duties, fiscal administration and event planning.

Prior to joining the Honors College Tammy worked for the University Events office planning events for the President’s Office, primarily the University Commencement ceremonies. Tammy has been working in administrative roles with a focus on the event planning industry for over 11 years prior to working at JMU. She was the Community Manager for the local Harrisonburg chapter of the American Cancer Society and assisted with the planning and implementation of the Relay for Life of Harrisonburg/Rockingham County, Page County, Bridgewater College and James Madison University. She then had an opportunity to work at Sunnyside Retirement Community as the Activities & Volunteer Services Director overseeing volunteers, trips, special events and activities for the Independent Living Residents.

Tammy enjoys planning events, working with the Dean and faculty to continue building the Honors College and ensuring all administrative duties are handled in a professional manner.

Tammy resides in Harrisonburg, VA with her husband of 17 years (Curtis); her son Braelon (11 years old), daughter Laney (7 years old) and dog Remi. She enjoys photography, traveling, exercising, reading and spending time with friends and family.
