Dr. Heather Tedesco is a licensed applied psychologist with a private practice in McLean, VA.  Her specialty is helping parents encourage healthy psychological development in their children and using a combination of psychological research and proven techniques to make parenting less stressful, more effective, and more enjoyable.  She works one-on-one with parents and frequently gives talks to groups of parents, educators, and/or students.

Dr, Tedesco received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from James Madison University ('94) where she was an Honors Scholar.  She received her Ph. D. in Social Psychology ('99) from the University of Maryland at College Park.  She has served on the Honors Advisory Council since its founding in 2009 and is the Immediate Past Chair.  Dr. Tedesco also serves on the STEM Advisory Council of the Children’s Science Center in Northern Virginia and co-chairs the Mental Health Committee of the Safe Community Coalition. 

Prior to opening her private practice, Dr. Tedesco worked for the General Electric Corporation, where she managed the only full-scale usability engineering group in the General Electric Corporation.  She was also a founding member of the usability program at the United States Census Bureau’s Center for Survey Methods Research, where she and her colleagues won the Director’s Award for their efforts to establish this program.

Dr. Tedesco lives with her husband Joe (also a JMU alumnus) and their three children in McLean, Virginia.
