2018 Commencement Medallion Ceremony and Reception 

Friday, May 4, 12:00-2:00 pm
Festival Student and Conference Center Ballroom

The Honors College would like to invite all graduating seniors and their family to attend a Medallion Ceremony and Reception. The guest speaker will be Dakota Gagliardi ('15, '16). The student speaker will be Devin Boehmer, a Computer Information Systems major and past president of Madison Honors Leadership Council.

Doors to the Festival Ballroom will open at 11:30 am. Seating is first come first serve. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony where you may visit with Dean Newcomer, Associate Dean Frana, Mr. Jared Diener, Academic Advisor, Mr. Kurt Davies, Director of Prestigous Scholarships and special guests. This event is by invitation only. Thank you!


Program Details

Dakota Gagliardi

Guest Speaker: Ms. Dakota Gagliardi

Dakota Gagliardi, a graduate of James Madison University (’15, ‘16) with a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies and a M.A.T graduate degree in Elementary Education. While at James Madison, Dakota was the founding president of Madison Honors Leadership Council. As president, she participated in two leadership panels at the 2014 Southern Regional Honors Conference in Savannah, Georgia and the 2014 National Collegiate Honors Conference in Denver, Colorado, where she spoke about her experiences as the council’s first president. Dakota also participated in the Barcelona Study aboard program offered through the Honors College. Additionally, Dakota was an TEACH Ambassador for the College of Education and a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Mu Epsilon. Dakota was an Honors School completing her capstone project on Early Childhood Curriculum and Pedagogy. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. Currently, Dakota is completing her second year as a 5th grade teacher. She works at a Title 1 school in Fairfax County, where she continues to seek out leadership opportunities.

Program Timeline

11:00 am-Doors Open

11:30 -11:45 am-Graduates seated for ceremony

12:00 - 1:30 pm-Medallion Ceremony

1:30 - 2:00/2:30 pm-Reception

Immediately following our cermeony all graduates and their families are invited to attend a reception with the Honors College Dean, Associate Dean and team members. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is recommended by each student (for their family) including details of dietary restrictions. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.

Parking/Shuttle Service

Parking is available in Lots C11 and C12. It is VERY much enouraged that you leave vehicles parked if you plan on attending other ceremonies later in the evening. Visit the JMU Commencement website for additional details. 

The University Cermeony will be held at 3 pm in Bridgefroth Stadium. Shuttle service will be provided from the loop at the Festival to Godwin Transit Center for those families wishing to attend this ceremony. The shuttle will run continuous loops between the Festival and Godwin Transit Center from 2-3 pm.


If you or a loved on are in need of accessible services (ASL Interpreter, accessible seating, etc.) please contact the Honors College team at your earliest convenience. Accessible seating will be available in the front of the ballroom. Please see a volunteer usher when you arrive should your family member need this assistance.

Ticket Information

All graduates will be given four (4) tickets at the April 26 Senior Celebration Lunch at Hillcrest; please RSVP today. If you cannot attend the lunch or need additional tickets contact the Honors College.
