Core Program
The Department of History offers the Masters of Arts degree with an opportunity for concentration in three fields of history. All students are required to complete thirty (30) hours in history, successfully complete a comprehensive examination, and complete a thesis for six credit hours.
All students will enroll in the following required courses:
First Year, Fall Semester
HIST 653, Patterns of World History, or its equivalent
HIST 671, Seminar in Historical Research Methods
First Year, Spring Semester
HIST 673, Graduate Research and Writing Seminar
Second Year, Fall Semester
HIST 700, Thesis
Second Year, Spring Semester

Special Requirements:
Students must take at least one offering of HIST 600, one offering of HIST 605, and at least 21 credits at the 600 level or above. Also, in addition to HIST 653 or its equivalent, students must take three credit hours of course work outside the field of their concentration.
