Sherry is entering her 29th year on staff within the department of sports medicine at JMU and was promoted to the position of associate athletic trainer in July 2003. Sherry's primary sport responsibilities are with women's basketball and volleyball.

Sherry earned her bachelor's degree in physical and health education from Madison College in 1976, and a master's of science in education degree from James Madison University in 1978. She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.

In 2000, Sherry was a recipient of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Athletic Trainer Service Award which recognizes athletic trainers who are role models for the future leaders of the profession. She was honored by NATA for her "significant contributions made over the past 20 years." Sherry is a member of the Educational Multi-Media Committee for the NATA and has served as secretary-treasurer for the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association (VATA). She has also been a presenter at the NATA Student Seminar in conjunction with the NATA's Annual Symposium, as well as a presenter at local sports medicine workshops and job fairs at local public schools in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area. Sherry has served as an instructor within the CAAHEP accredited undergraduate athletic training curriculum program at JMU.

Sherry and her husband, Mike, have three children, Kristen, Kevin, and Brian. Sherry and her family reside in Keezletown, Va.
