Dr. Connie Peterson is a native of Elkhart, Ind. She received her B.S. degree from Indiana University, her M.S. degree from Ithaca College, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
Clinically, Dr. Peterson has worked as an athletic trainer at Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis where she provided outreach athletic training coverage to Mt. Vernon High School and athletic training services to many local, state, national, and international sporting events. In 1996, she was the chief athletic trainer for the swimming venue at the Atlanta Paralympics and worked at the cycling venue and opening and closing ceremonies as well. While at the University of Georgia, she supervised athletic training students assigned with the men's and women's tennis teams and assisted with coverage of numerous NCAA national championship events. Prior to the University of Georgia, Dr. Peterson taught in the Athletic Training Education Program at Ball State University.
Dr. Peterson 's doctoral research was on the assessment of sport related concussions and return to play recommendations. In addition, she lectures on the prevention of overuse injuries through proper bicycle fit, shoe selection, and functional strength training.
In her spare time, Dr. Peterson is an avid triathlete who has earned All-America status in her age group every year since 2000 and competed in three World Championship races. She also volunteers with the Shenandoah Valley Bike Club working on advocacy issues, event planning, and trail development and maintenance throughout the Harrisonburg Community.
