Dr. Amato earned his Bachelor of Science degree from WVU in Physical Education. He earned his Master of Science degree from JMU in Education and his Doctor of Arts degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He has worked at JMU since 1988 in various roles within the athletic training program and is responsible for building the Athletic Training program into the tremendous program it is today. Prior to JMU, Dr. Amato worked for four years at a high school in Durham, NC and taught four years at Mars Hill College in NC.
In July 2006, Dr. Amato switched roles from Athletic Training Program Director to the Associate Dean, University Studies. He will continue to teach in the Athletic Training Program, but the majority of his new responsibilities are with the General Education program.
