Physical &psychological Complications

General:

  • irregular heartbeat, cardiac arrest
  • kidney damage
  • liver damage
  • destruction of teeth, rupture of esophagus
  • disruption of menstrual cycle, infertility
  • weakened immune system
  • icy hands and feet
  • swollen glands in neck, stones in salivary duct, "chipmunk cheeks"
  • excess hair on face, arms, and body
  • dry, blotchy skin with yellow or gray tone
  • malnutrition, disruption of body's fluid, mineral imbalance
  • fainting spells, sleep problems, poor concentration
  • permanent loss of bone mass, hairline fractures causing permanent damage

Over-exercising:

  • slowed metabolism
  • dehydration
  • stress fractures
  • degenerative arthritis
  • for women, amenorrhea (less than 3 periods a year) which causes a depletion of female hormones. This effects the metabolism of calcium and can ultimately cause osteoporosis
  • depressed thyroid activity
  • irregular sleep patterns
  • loss of ability to concentrate
  •  may start to burn healthy lean muscle mass tissue for energy, this decreases your ability to maintain physical activity
