JMU HEALTH CENTER ALLERGY CLINIC

James Madison University Health Center offers an allergy injection service for students receiving immunotherapy ordered by an allergist. Registered nurses who are available to administer injections coordinate the clinic and who will consult with your allergist as indicated. To utilize this service, please follow the steps below. If you have questions, you may call 540.568.2978 to speak with an allergy nurse.

1. Before coming to school be sure you have the following from your allergist:
  • Current vials (check the expiration dates).
  • Injection schedule indicating the amount, frequency, and date of last injection.
  • Instructions for reactions.
  • Instructions for missed or late injections
  • Instructions for ordering new vials
  • Phone and fax numbers for your allergist.

    2. All new allergy students will require an allergy consult appointment at the Allergy Clinic before you receive your first injection. This appointment will take approximately 20 minutes with the nurse who will prepare your allergy chart, review your allergy information, have you sign a release of medical information form and complete your history form.
    3. Once you have arrived at school, call the Allergy Clinic at 540.568.2978 to schedule your allergy consult appointment. Allergy injections will not be provided at this time. Don't forget to bring all your vials, schedules, and instructions with you. You may either have your allergist mail your vials and instructions to the Health Center, MSC 7901, Harrisonburg, VA 22807; or you may bring them when you arrive for your initial allergy consult appointment. If you have had them sent by your allergist, you may want to call ahead to see if they have arrived.
    4. A 30 minute mandatory waiting period is required after you have received your injections.
    5. If you are off your injection schedule, a call to your allergist may be necessary. This could extend your wait time further. If at all possible, except when you are feeling ill, please make every attempt to come for your regularly scheduled injections for the best possible results of your treatment.
    6. Allergy injections are available Monday through Friday 8-11a.m. and 1-4p.m.
    7. Read the JMU Health Center Allergy Injection Patient Policy for pertinent information.
    8. There are fees for service to receive allergy injections. The University Health Center does NOT bill insurances for allergy injections.
