The 2018-2019 academic year brings a new program to JMU, the 21st Birthday Program. Through this new initiative, we hope to help transition students into the legal drinking age in a safe and healthy manner. By partnering with local downtown businesses and a student organization, a coupon book has been created that is available for students to obtain by completing a brief educational session. The educational session is designed to provide students with skills and information for an enjoyable and safe celebration.

If you are turning 21, you may stop by The Well of the UHC to obtain your free 21st Birthday Coupon Book, which includes exclusive coupons for free food, prioritized and discounted transportation, and free activities.

We would like to thank our 2018-2019 Community Partners:

  • Capital Ale House
  • Friendly City Pedicab
  • The Golden Pony
  • Magnolia’s Tacos
  • Ruby’s Arcade
  • SafeRides
  • Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Company

During the academic year, students may participate in this program during the two weeks leading up to their 21st birthday on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The educational session lasts approximately 10 minutes. All students turning 21 beginning August 24, 2018 through July 2019 are eligible for this program. A valid and legal id must be provided to validate the student’s date of birth. During breaks, please contact The Well for adjusted times that the program is offered.

If you have questions regarding the 21st Birthday Program, or you are a local business interested in becoming a community partner, please contact The Well at (540) 568-2831 or email Mindy Koon at koonmf@jmu.edu.
