Outside the Classroom

Serve as a one-on-one mentor and event manager for Ability Olympics, a multi-sport event designed for area youth with disabilities to participate in physical activities competitions. This event hosts an average of 130 athletes and more than 3300 family members.

Numerous activities are offered for you to gain hands-on experience in sports recreation management. In the past, students have helped lead and manage the Shenandoah Valley Football Classic a two-day football tournament for eight high school teams.  They’ve staffed fan events leading up to Super Bowl XLV11, such as the NFL Experience and the Super Bowl Boulevard celebration and they’ve toured facilities and networked with sports executives with DC United and the Verizon Center, where they worked a  Nitro Circus motorcross event.
