One Program

Both concentrations in our Sport and Recreation Leadership master’s program provide you with specific industry skill sets and knowledge in the management of budgets, human resources, projects and risks. You’ll also learn best practices for staff training and development, gender equity, networking, research and how to navigate legal and ethical issues.

Through academic coursework, practical experience and a network of industry contacts, the program is designed to help you achieve your unique professional and educational goals.

Two Concentrations
Campus Recreation Concentration

Our campus recreation concentration will prepare you to address the dynamic challenges of recreation in higher education settings. With your SRL master’s degree you’ll be prepared to work in a variety of areas in campus recreation, including event management, operations, programming and facility management.

This is a 33-credit hour program: 15 core, 18 concentration-specific credit hours and a thesis or non-thesis option for completion. A three-credit internship is required for this concentration.

Focused course topics include: leadership, research techniques, college student development theory, fiscal management, programming, HR management, facilities operations and legal aspects.

Sport and Recreation Concentration

Whether your dream career in sport or recreation involves being a part of a large professional organization or maximizing your impact in smaller local youth sports groups, an SRL degree can help you get there.

Your master’s degree with a concentration in sport and recreation will prepare you to take on leadership roles in organizations large and small, public, private and non-profit. From high school and college coaching and athletic administration to professional and amateur sport associations, parks and recreation agencies and youth sports programs, you’ll be prepared to work at all levels of sport and recreation administration.

This is a 33-credit hour program: 15 core, 18 concentration-specific credit hours and a thesis or non-thesis option for completion.

Focused course topics include: leadership, research techniques, philosophy and ethics, administration, marketing and promotions, HR, fiscal, facilities and event management.
