Public Administration



Application Deadline

The MPA program accepts applications on a rolling basis. Completed applications should be received at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the semester in which the student intends to enroll.

For full consideration for graduate assistantships, completed applications should be received by April 1st.

Test Requirements

  • Official GRE or GMAT scores

Transcripts of all previous academic work at the undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) level. 
Applicants must upload unofficial copies of their transcripts and if admitted, all transcripts will be verified by the Graduate School. Applicants who previously attended James Madison University still need to upload an unofficial transcript, but do not need to provide official transcripts for verification.


Required by Program

  •  Statement of Purpose, outlining professional goals and motivation for pursuing the M.P.A. degree
  • Professional resume summarizing education, work, and volunteer experiences

Applicants are expected to complete undergraduate courses in statistics and American Government; missing course work can be completed after application to the program.

All of the above listed requirements can/should be uploaded within the online application, and test scores should be sent electronically to the Graduate School from the Educational Testing Service.
