Apply by January 10 for guaranteed consideration for admission and graduate assistantships.  After January 10, we will continue to review applications and admit students on a space-available basis.  The final application deadline is March 1.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement including statement of research interests, goals for graduate study and beyond and how the Psychological Sciences program will help you achieve these goals
  • Must choose a faculty member from Psychological Sciences as a potential mentor (can list two)
  • Three letters of recommendation (from faculty members familiar with your previous academic performance and potential for graduate work)
  • GRE General Test
    • Applied Research concentration - GRE is optional.
    • Behavior Analysis concentration - GRE is not required.
    • Experimental Psychology concentration - GRE is optional.
    • Quantitative Psychology concentration - GRE is required.
      Note: Although we request GRE scores, we use a “holistic” approach to admissions. 

        Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System                (IELTS) if native language is not English, unless you have earned a degree from a U.S. institution.

After our initial review of all applications, applicants who are considered for admission will be invited to visit campus sometime late in February. Applications received after that time are considered on a case by case basis. Please check our program website for a current list of dates and make sure to keep the listed date(s) available.

Licensure/Certification

The Psychological Sciences (M.A.) Behavior Analysis Concentration meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
