[A] Cultural Values and Leadership preferences

The "Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness" (GLOBE) research program was started by Robert J. House (professor of the Wharton School of Business, UPenn) in 1991. In this study, 170,300 middle managers in 951 organizations (food processing, financial services, telecommunication industry) in 58 different countries were involved and analyzed. From the study, culturally different ideas of the characteristics of outstanding leadership were measured and examined. It is found that aspects of leadership are culturally dependent that people's idea of good leadership vary across cultures.

[B] Market your story and international experiences

One of the main issues that keynote speaker Wajahat Ali wants you to take away is that “stories help us communicate our ideas, our values, and our beliefs.” While this concept is meant to be applied in a leadership and activist context, it very much applies to searching for a job. Share your story, share your international and leadership experiences as they are great assets and they help set you apart from the others.

[C] “You May Be Right:” Humanistic Techniques for Facilitating Trust and Motivation in Others

It is inevitable that in our personal and professional relationships we will experience conflict, resistance, and differences in perspectives. While these moments often feel frustrating and challenging, they are also powerful opportunities to strengthen bonds and form shared goals. Originally developed out of the need for an effective way to help clients suffering from addiction, the principles behind Motivational Interviewing can be used by individuals in leadership positions to inspire trust, collaboration, and positive change in those we interact with.

However leadership is like a muscle, it needs to be challenged often in order to get stronger. Through this inspiring and down-to earth presentation Coralie offers you her insight on the leadership abilities that she used to become an influential agent of change in her own community despite her young age and after she survived the massive Haitian earthquake of 2010.
