As Assistant Director, Global Scholarship and Engagement, Carol Lena develops globally-focused research and engagement involving faculty and colleagues from CGE and across campus, with particular emphasis on international collaborations and connections to global initiatives in the local community. She works with JMU and external partners on mutually-beneficial funding opportunities, managing grant and foundation applications, developing strategies for proposals, and leading the application process. She also facilitates partnerships with JMU faculty members, community members, and colleagues from other universities, including international collaborators. She serves on the Steering Committee for the Summit Series for the Globally Sustainable Self, and is also a member of the Steering Committee of Sustainable Shenandoah Valley Regional Center of Expertise for Sustainable Development.

Carol Lena also has extensive education and experience in computer technology, having earned a BS in Computer Science and a Master's Degree in Computer Science Information Systems from Virginia Tech and working for many years in software application development and management.  

Carol Lena has also served on the Board of Directors of several local non-profits, and is involved with the Northend Greenway, a community-led initiative to build a multi-use path and linear park in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  She has also enjoyed extensive travel around the globe, both for work and for play. She currently lives in Harrisonburg with her husband and two sons.
