As the Director of Study Abroad, Dr. Good leads, administers and coordinates all study, intern and service abroad opportunities for the JMU community.  He directs and leads the study abroad team on recruitment, enrollment and preparation of students for study abroad, as well as collaborating with academic departments to identify and develop study abroad opportunities for students.  He comes to JMU with a wide range of experience and expertise in higher education, most recently having served as the Director of Admissions at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU).  Dr. Good has been a faculty leader for several university six-week study abroad programs to Spain and Honduras as well as having served as a faculty instructor of social research, cross-cultural learning, and Spanish.

A Washington, D.C. native, Jason completed his bachelor’s degree from EMU in Sociology and Environmental Science.  He completed his master’s and doctorate in Hispanic Studies from the Universidad de Cádiz in Andalucía, Spain.  His Spanish language dissertation researches the integration of immigrant students into educational systems, specifically analyzing how to welcome and retain underrepresented groups into our educational communities.

He is passionate about higher education and the importance of education in a global context.  As an international educator he is a true believer that experiences with people and cultures different from our own are of vital significance to our progress as we strive to create accepting communities that value and affirm diversity.  In a time where we are focused on constructing walls that separate us from one another, he is honored to lead the study abroad office at JMU that works to provide students with cross-cultural educational experiences that build bridges between people and cultures.
