Give Now to the Madison Forever Scholarship Fund

Give now to the Madison Forever...

Madison Forever Scholarships provide a permanent fund for support of JMU students who face unexpected financial need that threatens their ability to continue their Madison Experience.

A parent loses his job. A parent’s illness requires unexpected out-of-pocket medical expenses. Students shouldn't be forced to leave Madison because of these one-time emergency needs, and Madison Forever Scholarships are designed to provide one-time grants that help a Duke stay a Duke.

Stephanie Rose Guilman ('14) holds up her thank you letter to donors

Think one gift can't make a difference? Think again. Read this thank you letter by scholarship recipient Stephanie Rose Guilman ('14).

How financial aid works

Our financial aid office receives hundreds of letters every year from parents and students telling us how their financial situation is not the same as what is represented on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. When possible, we try to adjust the FASFA to reflect what is really going on the lives of these families to create more aid eligibility, but sometimes there is only so much we can do within the constraints of the form.

More than 200 students helped

Madison for Keeps was implemented on an emergency basis in 2009-10 for this reason. Thanks to your help, it worked. It raised more than $437,000 and saved the academic lives of 107 JMU students. In 2011-12, more than 6,000 donors again stepped up in a big way, saving the academic lives of 103 students. Nearly every single student who has received aid from these programs remains at JMU or went on to graduate.

Help a Duke stay a Duke

Madison Forever Scholarships is not a renewable or permanent scholarship. It is not for prospective students. When life throws a JMU family member an unexpected curveball, Madison Forever Scholarships has the potential to help a Duke stay a Duke. Please give now.
