About Giving to JMU
Donors change lives
The gifts you make to James Madison University support the professors and students engaged at the heart of the learning enterprise. Your gifts toward scholarships, faculty support, programs and facilities allow them to engage with ideas and achieve and innovate in ways that also engage with the world. These opportunities help JMU address the societal challenges of today and further JMU’s vision to become the national model of the engaged university.
JMU’s Division of University Advancement engages constituents like alumni, parents, the community, corporations and foundations to invest their talents and resources in support of JMU’s mission to prepare educated and enlightened citizens who lead productive and meaningful lives. Departments include Communications and Marketing, Constituent Relations including the Alumni Association, the Development Office, and Advancement Information.
James Madison University Foundation
Gifts to JMU are managed and stewarded by the James Madison University Foundation so that funds are disbursed according to the donors’ wishes in support of JMU students, professors, programs and facilities. When you make a gift to your department or to scholarships or to support the JMU faculty, for instance, the JMU Foundation administers your gift on behalf of Madison. So, when you give through the JMU Foundation, you are directly supporting James Madison University.
Achieving great things today at James Madison University requires a healthy endowment. As state funding for higher education continues to diminish, JMU will increasingly look to a growing endowment to give access to deserving students, lessen their debt burden, and to support the Madison programs that innovate solutions to societal issues. As of December 31, 2013, the endowment stood at $74 million. Plans are to increase the endowment dramatically over the coming years.
