Summer 2006 Research Activities
A volume on Geology of Virginia
is planned as part of the 400th anniversary of the
settlement at Jamestown in 1607. I was asked to prepare a
chapter on geoarchaeology. The first draft is complete.
A report on my recent research at
Montpelier was completed and is in the editing stage. This
report describes a study of the lithologies and sources of
sands and gravels used during the Madisonian period to
stabilize the early roads and pathways in the vicinity of
the mansion.
