Why is Evolutionary Systems a geology course?
Evolutionary Systems is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary subject that fits into no one department, yet belongs to all disciplines. So, why is it listed as a geology course? Because the three faculty who participate in its design and teaching all happen to be in the geology department, and courses must exist in a department. No other reason. It would be nice if the University had a separate umbrella for interdisciplinary/ multidisciplinary courses, but that is for the future.
On the other hand, Evolutionary Systems is part of the General Education/General Science program, and can be used as the second tier course in Package D (the package generally taken by science majors). We plan in the future to make it available in other packages.
Registration
Register for Evolutionary Systems as Geology 200, and if you are in Package D it will be applied to satisfy your Second Tier General Science requirements.
Honors Option. Some class slots are sometimes made available to the Honors Program making Evolutionary Systems an Honors Seminar for honors students. To get honors credit, honors students sign up for Evolutionary Systems under a special Honors course number. See the Honors Department about the course number, although for Spring 2003 it is HONORS 300B.
