Evolutionary Systems Course Evaluations

Extemporaneous Commentary.

Free form comments written by students on the back of the evaluation sheets.
  • I enjoyed this class very much guys; and Lynn, as always, loved the humor and flat out honesty when telling us things.

  • The class has been important in that it changed the way I view my own opinions; the course was difficult but interesting and fun to work at (especially labs); the professors were great. Very knowledgeable and always there for extra support.

  • So . . . Tit-for-tat is like Christianity?

  • This was absolutely my favorite class this semester. I would suggest another class to continue this learning process.

  • It really opened my eyes to possibilities I wasn't even aware of before the class; too many handouts, lack of overall organization of material.

  • This course was extremely valuable to me and allowed me a further leaning into science and philosophy that I would not have otherwise a chance to explore.

  • I would have to put this in my top two classes as meaningful to me, desire to come to, and changing my view of the world. The other that was one by itself was another Honors Seminar: Black Elk to Black Holes. These two classes dealt with much of the same subject matter.

  • Unbelievable. This class pushed me above and beyond what I was expecting. In the beginning I was overconfident, then I felt ignorant, and finally I feel prepared to continue my education on this topic on my own. It was difficult for me to see my weaknesses at first, but with guidance in this course I feel so much more intelligent and able to make my own ideas and contribute to my own education. Thank you!

  • I think that because I am a senior and had a very diverse education previously, this was less expanding intellectually as it would be to say a freshman. I would encourage you to spread the word about this course more so that a greater number of students can take it!

  • How important to you intellectual education? Very important - provided me with the ability to develop my critical thinking skills.
Summary evaluation of course. Challenging - contained information that was difficult to grasp.
Summery evaluation of professors. They were extremely knowledgeable in this field and committed to teaching us difficult material. Their goal was to expand our knowledge and make us think in new ways. I rate them as well above past professors.

  • When I started this class I came in not knowing anything about the subject. In the beginning of the semester I was confused and felt threatened. I stuck with the class because of the teacher's commitment and passion. About ½ way to 2/3rds through the semester things started to click for me. I became fascinated by the subject although that didn't mean it came easily to me I have really enjoyed this class and it has given me a whole new perspective on life. Thank you.

  • This was a very difficult class. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. I learned that there are many different points of view. I liked the fact they wanted to hear our opinions but didn't pressure us. I feel I learned more listening to other's points of view. I wish they would change one thing and that would be the fact of having our work back to us, so we can have an understanding of where we were in the class. I had no idea what I was getting. But, other than that, it was a great learning experience.

  • This was one of the most intellectually challenging courses I have ever taken in terms of the complexity of the material and the way it forced me to think. But completing this evaluation right now and reflecting on all I have learned and the progress I have made as a scholar is one of the greatest rewards I have gained since being at school. Thank you.
