Dr. Roddy V. Amenta  (1937-2012)

Background

To honor Roddy’s many contributions to James Madison University and to the Department of Geology and Environmental Science, an endowed scholarship was created in his memory. Roddy's 37 years on the faculty at JMU represented a time of great change. He played a critical role in the development of the department and was a strong voice for its students. He was a tireless and dedicated teacher who always found time to help his students succeed. His sense of humor made his personal interaction and his classroom teaching an adventure. Roddy was respected and admired by his colleagues as a source of clear and in-depth thinking at the intersections of geology with physics and chemistry. Without his clear vision of students first and his focus on high educational standards, the department would not be what it is today. The Roddy V. Amenta Memorial Scholarship Endowment will provide financial resources annually for one or more outstanding undergraduate student scholars in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science.
