Tech Level I Resource Information
Below is some information about Tech Level I test resources, the Exam Study Guide and the Skills Guide, that will help you complete the requirement. Any questions regarding these resources should be directed to Catherine Mahoney, the Technology Coordinator for University Studies at mahonect@jmu.edu
Exam Study Guide
When you take the Tech Level I tests, an account is created that stores your Word, PowerPoint and Excel scores. By re-entering your account at the Ashby testing lab, you can print an Exam Study Guide that identifies your areas of strength and of weakness for each test. You can use this Exam Study Guide in combination with the Skills Guide described below to practice those skills that need the most work. To print this Exam Study Guide, re-enter your account and at the bottom of the screen you will find a line that reads "report type." Click the drop down menu and select "exam study guide." Click the green "create report button." Once the document is on your screen, click the print icon on your tool bar. You will only be able to create an Exam Study Guide for tests you have taken. Spending time with the Exam Study Guide will help you to focus on some of the tasks you need to master in order to pass the Tech Level I.
In addition to the Exam Study Guide and the online tutorials for the Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, instructor led tutorials for Excel are available in Ashby testing lab for all interested students. Check the GenEd web site for details about these sessions.
Skills Guide
If you have taken the Tech Level I and find you are having difficulty passing them or would like to be prepared before you take the tests, the Skills Guide can help you. This Skills Guide identifies the specific skills you must demonstrate to pass the exams. Print a copy of the Skills Guide and practice each of the skills listed to achieve competence with these applications.
