Cluster Endorsement/Approval Overview

Any addition to the existing Cluster structure or the creation of a new Cluster structure must be endorsed prior to the initial offering for General Education credit. After three years of being taught as part of the general education curriculum, the proposed changes must be presented for formal approval.

Endorsed Deletion: The written recommendation to delete an endorsed course or series of courses from the General Education program must be made to or by the appropriate cluster committee. The cluster committee reviews the recommendation and seeks feedback from contributing departments and other constituencies. If the cluster committee supports the recommendation to delete, then it is brought before the General Education Council for a decision. If the General Education Council votes to delete a change, then contributing departments, colleges, and Library and Educational Technologies are informed of the decision.

Approved Deletion: The written recommendation to delete an approved course or series of courses from the General Education program must originate from a cluster committee, a contributing department, or a College C&I Committee. The cluster committee reviews the recommendation and seeks feedback from contributing departments and other constituencies. If the cluster committee supports the recommendation to delete, then the appropriate form is completed and it is brought before the General Education Council for a decision. If the General Education Council votes to delete the change, the deletion form is submitted to the Dean of General Education and it is posted on the university curriculum web site for 15 days. Copies of the deletion form are submitted to the College C&I Committees and Library and Educational Technologies for their information. If the web site posting receives no questions, then the change is deleted. Any questions and concerns related to the deletion of the change must be resolved by the General Education Council and/or the appropriate cluster committee in a timely manner.
