Geary Albright

The recipient of the 2017 General Education Distinguished Teaching Award is Dr. Geary Albright, assistant professor in the Physics Department.

Dr. Albright received his B.A. in biology from Bates College in Lewiston, ME, his M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Virginia, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Virginia.  He joined the faculty at JMU in 2005, and has taught courses in astronomy, and physical sciences.  Within the General Education Program, he is a popular and regular teacher of ISCI 171 and 172—science courses for IdLS majors, within Cluster Three of the program.

Dr. Albright will be honored at a celebratory lunch hosted by the General Education program for his department and will be recognized at a Provost’s Award luncheon in April. In addition to a plaque and honorarium, he will give the keynote address at a gala banquet for the 2017 General Education Student Conference.

He is the fourteenth recipient of this award, which was established by the Provost’s Office in 2004. Previous Distinguished Teaching Award recipients are: Craig Abrahamson (2004); Carol A.
