Word Is Born Poets Society

The mission of the "Word Is Born Poets Society" is to provide emerging poets and poetry enthusiasts within the JMU community an opportunity to express their appreciation of lyricism. By cultivating a "culture of poetry" we strive to awaken minds, stimulate creativity, and encourage artistic expression through:

  • 1 knowledge, experience and passion
  • 2 performance, education and service

Every First Thursday, Word is performing at Open Mic in TDU from 8p-10p. We welcome everyone out to join the occasion with your poetry and to listen to other poets.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Word Is Born Poets Society was nominated for the Best Emerging Organization at James Madison University's Dolly Awards. The nomination consisted of two other organizations that were also recognized during the Fall Semester on JMU's Campus. Word Is Born accepted the award with thanks and gratitude towards everyone and of course Ms. Sheri Schofield for placing the nomination of the organization.
