Scholarship

Ten scholarships of $350 will be awarded to offset the registration cost of the seminar.

 

Scholarships are needs-based and will be awarded based on the following criteria:

 

  • 1) A one page statement of purpose. Why does the applicant want to attend the seminar and what specifically does the applicant hope to take from the seminar back into the classroom? The statement must be no longer than one page with one inch margins and 12-point type.

 

  • 2) A letter from the principal, department head, or appropriate academic official recommending the candidate and verifying that institutional funds are not available.

 

The completed statement and recommendation letter must be emailed as a WORD document or PDF file to shoecrcl@jmu.edu by 5:00 p.m. May 15, 2009.

 

The subject line of the email must be: Clifton Scholarship Application.

 

The applicant's name and email must appear on both pages.

 

 

Applications will be reviewed by a committee from the Furious Flower Poetry Center and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Successful applicants will be notified by May 20, 2009.
