"Poetry as Compass: A Collegiate Summit"

During this two-day summit for college students, you will practice  elements of craft and demonstrate how poetry can be used in community service and outreach.  You'll learn from renowned poets, including members of the Affrilachian Poets Writers' Collective.

Summit Events Include:

  • Workshops on the craft of poetry. 
  • A poetry reading and book signing at the acclaimed Virginia Festival of the Book.
  • A chance to share your original work at a poetry jam hosted by JMU's Word is Born Writers' Society!
  • A panel discussion and a student forum where you can discuss how the arts are relevant to issues your generation faces.
  • A Poets’ Q&A. You'll learn about M.F.A. programs and publication.
