Latium (Lazio)

    Latium is a region in Central Italy on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula. This region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria, and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Lazio borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise, and with Campania to the south. The natural environment is very complex, but one can distinguish four subdivision: the Latium Maremma with the same characteristics of the Tuscan Maremma; the Latium Preapennines, with groups of mountains of volcanic origin. The Latium Apennines that include mountains over 2,000 meters.
