AbruzzoThis is a region of peninsular Italy stretching between the central Apennines and the Adriatic coast in the area defined by the mouths of the rivers Tronto to the north and Trigno to the south. Of medium size, it borders to the north with the Marches, to the west with Latium, to the south with Molise, while to the east it lies on the Adriatic Sea. A typical Apennine mountain environment is that of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzi which, established in 1922, extends over the central Apennines among Abruzzo, Latium and Molise on an area of about 40,000 hectares, surrounded by 60,000 hectares of external protected area. The pride of the park and its main feature is the brown "Marsica" bear and the equally appealing Abruzzo chamois.Cities in the RegionMontepulcianoL'Aquila |
