“... their balance is perfectly tempered, their sound as pure as baptismal waters...”

Opera News

Hailed by The Washington Post as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power,” Cantus is among the finest a cappella vocal ensembles known worldwide for its musical versatility, “intellectually, emotionally and musically rich” (Star Tribune) sound, and engaging performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Working without a conductor, Cantus is dedicated to performing vital and enduring music, creating programs that are accessible to a wide range of audiences. Discovery of Sight features seasoned masterpieces like Richard Strauss’ Traumlicht and Franz Shubert’s Die Nacht, as well as newer works including Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque and a world premiere commission by Gabriel Kahane. At its heart, however, Discovery of Sight revels in the mystery, science, and poetry of what it means to truly “see.” Based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Cantus has released 17 albums and is the recipient of numerous awards, including Chorus America’s highest honor, the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence (2009). This performance features a guest appearance by JMU’s Madison Singers.  www.cantussings.org
