Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado

Featuring the JMU Opera Theater

Thursday - Friday, April 13 - 14 @ 8 pm

Boasting a masterful script and incredible score, The Mikado joins The Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore as one of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s comic opera masterpieces. Love is in the air in the town of Titipu, Japan, ruled by the despicable Ko-Ko (the Lord High Executioner) and his sidekick Pooh-Bah. Nanki-Poo, the son of the almighty emperor The Mikado, comes to Titipu disguised as a common minstrel to seek out his true love Yum-Yum, whom he has longed for from afar. Complications abound and laws are broken because Yum-Yum is betrothed to Ko-Ko, and Nanki-Poo is engaged to another. The Mikado is determined to set things right again. Love triumphs in the end, but not before heads almost roll!
