James Markey joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as bass trombone in 2012 following a 15-year tenure with the New York Philharmonic as associate principal trombone (1997-2007) and bass trombone (2007-2012). Markey began his “great career” (CNN) as principal trombone of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with the PSO, and with numerous other symphonies, bands and ensembles. Markey currently teaches bass trombone at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he directs the Preparatory School Trombone Choir.
