Originally from Nigeria, Wole Lagunju now lives in North Carolina. Lagunju fuses tradition and modernity, merging images from the Victorian era with Yoruba Gelede and pop-culture with archetypal imagery to create genre-bending works that speak to the notions of identity, gender, power and difference. His paintings are in a collection of institutions, including the World Bank, Denver Art Museum and the image bank of the Pollack-Krasner Foundation.
