James Tocco

Featured pianist for the 2014 American Liszt Society Festival at JMU (June 6-8)

Sunday, June 8 @ 2 pm

James Tocco will perform Liszt's Harmonies Poetiques et Religeuses, and Jonathan Kregor will give a lecture.  In frequent demand worldwide as a recitalist, orchestral soloist, chamber music collaborator and pedagogue, Tocco is renowned for his "intensely concentrated playing, precisely gauged and rhythmically fluid" (The Detroit News) interpretations of Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. "Tocco gave a knockout performance" (The New York Times) in a recital at the Lincoln Center paying tribute to Liszt 100 years after his death.

Kregor is the author of Liszt as Transcriber (Cambridge Unviersity Press, 2010), the winner of the inaugural Alan Walker Book Award from the American Liszt Society, and the editor of the Journal of the American Liszt Society. Kregor holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is Associate Professor of Musicology at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
